Breakdown

Fashion of raves which originated in England towards the end of the 1980s and the ravers who got together at these raves became popular throughout the world due to the major hits from the band Prodigy which made their debut on the rave scene in the 1990s. Even in Japan, from 2000 rave events were carried out actively focusing on large-scale stores such as Shinjuku’s CODE and Roppongi’s Velfarre (Both locations are now closed). Candy Raver is a raver fashion with flamboyant coloration which looks like candy along with accessories which were popular in areas of America such as the west coast at that time. These fashions were brought to Japan from America by Japanese who used to live in America and members of the U.S. Army. At that time you could see these fashions regularly on the streets of Shibuya. Over 10 years later, Candy Ravers are gaining attention now again from a younger generation which has no recollection of that time. Candy Ravers have candy colored bracelets on their arms and people exchange these bracelets with each other strengthening their friendship. In addition, a distinctive characteristic is the rapid steps where one spins a glow stick bracelet and dances with their heels off the ground. 撮影協力 : clubasia, TEDDY'S Bigger Burgers
